New Perspective, Valuable Assistance, Classic Legacy Intern for Custom Gift Creation

Last updated on 10/23/2013 By Catherine Tatum Catherine Tatum

Valuable assistance and a new perspective……those are good things to have any time!   This is what I received by hiring Tyler Finn as a Classic Legacy intern.    In fact Tyler continues to work part-time for Classic Legacy.   This is how it happened.    I realized that it would be really helpful to have more help with Photoshop.    We use this program to create virtual presentations showcasing our custom gifts.    I asked my friend Natalie, who attends Lausanne Collegiate School, to help contact the instructor of their art program.   Mr. Michael Naya, the art director, recommended Tyler Finn.  These are some things I learned about hiring a part-time high school intern.

Utilize Skills

Tyler is very gifted.   He learned Photoshop during his Sophomore year of high school.  He furthered his knowledge during the summer concentrating on photography pieces.  Tyler is now enrolled in the second year of  International Baccalaureate Art Class.  His focus is mainly on Photoshop and Photography Skills.   Tyler is the editor of the Year Book and uses his knowledge of Photoshop in IB Visual Arts. His other classes include  AP Calculus,  Physics Honors, English 12 Honors, and Global Perspectives.   He especially likes Global Perspectives because they debate and converse about modern issues.  With all these skills how could I not benefit from the work of Tyler?     Being competent in subject matter however is not the most important skill I look for.   It is the habits of being on time, being dependable, and getting the work done that are the most important.    These habits are hard to see until you work with someone.   Tyler exhibits these good habits along with his mastery of Photoshop.

Define Work and Goals

I knew it would be best for Tyler to work remotely.   I introduced Dropbox to Tyler.   It is the perfect way to set up folders, share information, and collaborate.   Some of the projects that Tyler has worked on include:

  • Creating logos
  • Creating Virtual Product Images using custom images our clients provide
  • Creating Video

This YouTube Video is one that Tyler created.   It features photos that I took when I was in New Orleans in the Fall of 2012.  The video also features virtual photos of custom gifts.   The Hotel Monteleone commissioned Classic Legacy to create custom gifts.   Be sure to click on this and watch this.   Tyler has combined the photos with the wonderful Jazz sound of New Orleans!

Be Open for New Perspectives

It is important for me to be a life long learner.   Working with Tyler has been great.   I’ve learned to text more :)…..I’ve learned how valuable YouTube is.   Tyler Finn is very busy.   He has always made time to get the job done for Classic Legacy and I sure appreciate that!   Next year Tyler will be in college and in ten years he hopes to become a doctor.   I would like to keep in touch with Tyler and I sure appreciate his skills and expertise that he has given to Classic Legacy.
