Creative Boutique Something Simple in Eureka Springs Arkansas Entices Visitors

Last updated on 09/06/2022 By Catherine Tatum Catherine Tatum

The boutique, Something Simple, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas draws you in with creative magic the minute you walk in the door.   Kaylene Shepard is the proprietor.  She is really an artist and designer!   I took a trip with my mother and sister to Northwest Arkansas and our first overnight stay was in Eureka Springs.   This Victorian town is known for its healing springs.  The entire city limits of Eureka Springs are designated as a Historic District and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.   Something Simple is a Classic Legacy customer and I wanted to stop in and say hello.   The minute I saw this house and walked in the back door I knew I was in for a treat!  These are some things I learned:

  • Displays that are unique draw customers in!
  • Simple colors unify.   Kaylene uses black and white and highlights with aged wood.
  • Textures are important.  Wood, lace, burlap, feathers, tinsel, brass, and glass offer wonderful texture.
  • Creativity makes this store a destination!

Kaylene invited me to take lots of photos.  Enjoy and as you look think of what you have and how it might be used to create interest and draw customers to explore your store.

 Chair Display at Something Simple
As I walked in the back room this chair greeted me. It is used to display bath products.
Wooden Storage at Something Simple
Each room holds a treasure! This wooden antique display holds all sorts of interesting finds.

 White Wash Wood Drawers

As I walked deeper into the store I realized that the colors black and white were repeated often and accents of burlap, wood, silver, and gold pulled everything together!

 Paper Ornaments at Something Simple
Paper Ornaments at Something Simple are starting to welcome Christmas in a nostalgic way.
 Voting Booth Curtain
This display really draws attention. Kaylene told me the backdrop was from a 1920 Voting booth! Creativity abounds.
Jake the Cat
Jake the Cat is a special cat. He wants to be the center of attention and often is! Notice how subtle jewelry is hanging from a branch. I recognize some Classic Legacy pieces in there!

Something Simple Dolls
Kaylene creates one-of-a-kind dolls. These dolls are dressed in old lace, tatting, and muslin, and often have bits of vintage crystal jewelry. Jake the cat enjoys all the treasures as well.
Brooch Bouquet Lace Vests
Kaylene shared with me that she creates bouquets for brides using vintage lace and jewelry. The bride may walk down the aisle with a lace vest and bouquet similar to this.
Classic Legacy Jewelry for Something Simple
These are some of the Classic Legacy jewelry finds that you might find at Something Simple. Note how Kaylene’s choices stay with the color and texture theme of the store!
Kaylene Shepard at Home with Vintage Sewing Machines
Kaylene’s husband took this photo in her studio. She collects vintage sewing machines and uses them in a display!

When you travel in Northwest Arkansas be sure to make Something Simple a destination.    It is one of the most charming businesses that I have ever visited!   We have a Pinterest Page that highlights displays for retail stores.  Be sure to follow me on Pinterest where I have pinned many of these displays as well as curated hundreds more!
