Creating experiences that guests will remember and share is important. I spent “Black Friday” in Oxford, MS. Oxford is a small college town with a wonderful “Square” that is the business hub. My husband and I drove for about an hour and arrived in mid afternoon. The Christmas season began that day for me! Here are some of the experiences and events that I will always remember.
Outdoor Activities for Everyone
We parked our car near the courthouse. The first thing we saw was the horse-drawn carriage with delighted guests. There was a long line of visitors waiting patiently for their turn! What a great way to create experiences to remember.
We walked around the square and went into many boutiques and stores. Each one was filled with Christmas cheer and happy customers. The Oxford Chorus sang in front of the City Hall. We happened to get there at just the right time. Another experience to remember!
Experiences for Children
I did not have any children with me but there were so many fun things for children! Adults everywhere bring children to create memories! Neilson’s Department Store is the “oldest store in the South”. It was established in 1839. Their motto is where “Trends meet Tradition”. I can see why generations continue to shop here.
Displays that Create Experiences
As a marketer I also looked at the way merchants were displaying their products. Displays create experiences!
Gifts that Remind You of Great Experiences
I did not go to Oxford on business. I went to have fun and get into the Christmas spirit! I had such a good time! It is the experience that I will remember the most. While we were at Neilson’s my husband bought a new pair of Johnston & Murphy shoes. I also peeked into the men’s department and saw the Classic Legacy cuff links displayed. It pleases me to see my designs featured in the oldest store in the South where trends meet tradition!
It is all about the experience! These are examples of how a small town created experiences that I will always remember. I’d love to hear about your favorite experiences and how you have used that in your business.
